From the creek we stroll across the property, passing the Federalist era Chatham home, as well as the twenty acres of ripening grapes, on our way to the winery where we'll enjoy a tasting of Chatham's delicious Church Creek wine and a behind-the-scenes tour of the facility. After the tasting, there is almost always time to sit out at one of the tables overlooking the vineyard and enjoy a glass or two of wine and, perhaps, a cheese plate. Then we'll stroll on back down to the boats for our return paddle.
We offer this trip daily with advanced reservations. The cost is $89 per paddler which covers your guide, boat, gear, winery experience, AND you get a complimentary bottle of wine for every two paddlers! No experience necessary!
Chatham Vineyards (Paddle Your Glass Off)
The Paddle Your Glass Off tour begins on the banks of Nassawadox Creek at a working watermen's wharf in the tiny bayside village of Bayford, a spot so remote that GPS can't even locate it. (Don't worry! We'll send you directions!) After a brief "paddling clinic" on land, we leave the clammers and crabbers behind us and head south towards Church Creek (about a 45 minute paddle). Whether they be terns or periwinkle snails or something a bit bigger, we always see wildlife both on the wing above us and stalking among the salt grass on the marshy banks of the creeks. We'll swing wide around Rabbit Island on the way just to see who might be nesting there...maybe even an osprey in a tree top scanning for fish in the water below! Minutes later, we'll be pulling our kayaks right up onto the shores of Chatham Vineyards.
